Strip Mall Fire
Asbestos is known for its high resistance to heat and chemicals, insulating
properties, tensile strength and flexibility, as well as flame-retardant
properties.
Asbestos was banned from production in materials, such as mud/texture
coating, sheetrock tape, vinyl floor tiles, putty, caulking, fire
blankets, gaskets and many other items.
Alliance Environmental Group was called in to remove asbestos stucco
and drywall from the exterior of the building and the inside of an
elevator shaft. This was done in order to extend the building, add
an additional elevator and comply with ADA safety regulations.
Extensive containments were set up to contain the exterior stucco,
reducing the possibility of escaping asbestos fibers. Fibers, invisible
to the unaided human eye may fragment over and over at the slightest
touch, resulting in hundreds of much thinner and smaller fibers to
be released. The smaller the fibers are the more easily they can
become airborne and human respiratory exposures can result.
Alliance, following AQMD guidelines, covered the affected areas
with plastic to prevent the contamination of other materials. Stucco
and drywall were also safely removed from the elevator shaft and
equipment room, allowing contractors to safely extend the building.
Upon completion of the project, test results concluded that the
asbestos was removed properly and safely contained. Another excellent
job and report for the client and our team at Alliance Environmental
Group
