An Encino apartment complex suffered heavy damage in May of 2002 when a tenant ignited a cigarette after disconnecting the gas line to his stove. The explosion occurred at approximately 11 AM; the Los Angeles Fire Department dispatched 40 fire engines and trucks, 200 firefighters, 12 ambulances and a helicopter, extinguishing the fire in three hours. By 3 PM, Alliance was called to survey the site for asbestos abatement, and by 6 PM, the Alliance team was on site analyzing a plan of action. Cleanup began the next morning, a project that would span over a three-month period.
