If you can see mold, there is a possibility there could be more mold in surrounding areas. In homes and in buildings, if mold is visible in the ceilings or walls there is a high possibility that there can be mold inside the walls. Any moisture can cause mold to produce rapidly. Today we posted on Facebook on some alarming news about mold being found inside a capri sun. This pouch drink is popular amongst kids. The case about finding mold in the capri sun was discovered when a 5 year old child drank it and spit it out. Their uncle took it back to where the drink was purchased and cut in half and they discovered the pouch had mold. Five different types of mold were discovered that microbiologists still have not unidentified. It is scary to think that you can find mold in juice pouches that both moms enjoy buying for their kids and kids like drinking it. I grew up drinking these type of drinks when I was younger. So what are some types of mold that can not only be found in food but in our environment?
According to pureaircalgary.blogspot.com below are examples of some mold that can be found in the home and each mold is classified into a Class and each type of mold is divided into a hazard class. Class A will need to be removed right away. Class B can cause infections and allergies over time and Class C has no know toxicity to humans but can cause issues with buildings and should be removed.
Cladosporium – this type of mold can be green, brown, grey or black and is either a Class B or Class C, depending on the variation. It is most commonly found in walls, insulation, dust or wood, but appears in other places as well.
Aspergillus – this mold occurs in white, grey, brown, yellow, green or black and is classed either A or B. It can cause infection in those with weak immune systems and can generate toxins in some situations, while other varieties will cause only allergic reactions. It can grow in walls, paper products, insulation, soil or clothing.
Ulocladium – this mold is found on damp areas, such as walls, around windows or in dusty areas. It can either be black or grey and is in Class B or C.
Acremonium – found on insulation and sheetrock or drywall, this mold can either be white, grey or brown. Variations occur in all three hazard classes.
Stachybotrys – this is the infamous “black mold” that everyone talks about. It needs a very damp area to grow and is black in color. It is Class A as it can create toxins.
Alternaria – this Class B mold has been found to cause allergic reactions and can grown in dusty areas, around windows, damp areas, in soil and on plants. It is either black or grey.
