Finding information about Mold

Mold has become a major health issue in the indoor environment of homes, schools, and other public areas. Mold grows by seeking moisture and warmth in order to expand. Mold is mostly found in places like basements,attics,bathrooms, kitchens and on walls. So what happens if you think you have mold? Do you know where to go to look for resources? Here a scenario of residents of the state of New Jersey who did not have any resources and now do because of the bill (A-1588) that was established. In the state of New Jersey, legislation established standards to limit mold exposure in residential buildings. In addition, standards and procedures for the inspection, identification, and evaluation of residential buildings affected by mold were established. Rules and regulations were created because there were non that existed to protect the public from health complications from mold. Other states have these types of regulations in order to protect the health of of all who can be affected by mold and now was the time that New Jersey implemented the same guidelines and regulations. According to the bill, the Department of Community Affairs also requires:

  • To establish standards for mold hazard abatement procedures including specialized cleaning, repairs, maintenance, painting, temporary containment and ongoing monitoring of mold hazards or potential hazards
  • Establish a certification program for persons who inspect for the presence of mold hazards in residential buildings and who perform mold hazard abatement work in residential buildings.
