What Our Clients Say

Alliance restored our attic after smoke damage from the Kincade fire in Windsor. Jose and Luis arrived promptly, prior to the scheduled time, and screened off their work area with plastic sheeting from floor to ceiling, so as not to contaminate the rest of the house and garage; they wore protective gear at all times. Using huge horses they vacuumed the old insulation out and thoroughly cleaned the attic area. Jose took before, during and after photos of the complete process. A separate hose blew in new insulation. It looked much better than the original job when the house was built. They hauled away huge bags of contaminated insulation. They left the property just as spotless as when they arrived (even swept a few leaves from the sidewalk). They were professional, polite, friendly and efficient. I highly recommend this team (Jose’s team) and their services.

Should You Remove Old Attic Insulation?

There are a few situations where removing the insulation from your building is necessary. These situations involve the condition and age of the insulation. You should remove your insulation based on:

  • Mold: Condensation from your air conditioner can drip into your insulation, which naturally holds moisture. Retaining water allows mold to grow, which can degrade your air quality.
  • Animals: Small animals love to nestle into a building’s insulation. They’ll leave dirt and droppings, which will pollute the air.
  • Age: Insulation loses its effect over time. Remove your insulation to make room for a new energy-efficient product that will reduce your energy bill and improve your air quality.

Our Attic Removal Process

Removing insulation is a hard and tedious project that requires specialized equipment and safety gear. As one of California’s top insulation removal companies, our professional installers will ensure the process is fast and smooth. We’ll complete your job on time and in a professional way, giving you peace of mind.

Depending on your structure and the type of installation used alliance will assess your project needs and provide a detailed estimate for bringing your attic back to a clean and more energy-efficient space. Alliance begins each insulation removal project with meticulous preparation. We cover the floor and walls leading to your attic entry with protective plastic sheeting. Contents from your attic are moved to a secure location to ensure that they are not damaged before insulation is removed. The best way to get a cost estimate for your project is to schedule a free inspection here, or by calling one of our friendly account representatives at (877) 858–6220.

Removal of Batting (Roll) Insulation

Batting insulation must be rolled up and removed by hand. Each piece is rolled up and placed into specialized insulation removal bags. These heavy duty bags are removed from the attic, transported offsite, and disposed of properly. Alliance technicians then vacuum out the entire area to remove any remaining loose insulation, rodent droppings and other debris between each joist.

Removal of Blown-In Insulation

Alliance technicians vacuum out blown-in insulation such as fiberglass, cellulose and rock wall. An extended six-inch hose is fed into the attic area where the old insulation is then vacuumed out, along with any rodent waste and debris. All waste is pumped into large insulation removal bags using specialized machinery which remains outside of the structure.

Cleaning and Decontamination

If our technicians notice signs of rodents in your building, such as droppings, nesting activity, urine stains, or odors, we decontaminate the area and provide effective rodent-proofing systems that will keep your space clean and safe. Once the area is decontaminated, it is ready for installation of new energy-efficient insulation.

Installing New Insulation

Alliance experts can install new insulation using eco-friendly insulating materials that will improve performance as more energy-efficient buildings. This will lead to energy cost savings while providing excellent health benefits. We can provide advice on the best options and with proper installation, it will help resist the flow of heat from the sun during the summer and prevent the escape of heat during the winter, keeping your building at a comfortable temperature year around.

Air Duct Cleaning

All buildings with air conditioning or forced-air heating systems have a ductwork system made of supply and return ducts. These air ducts are channeled through attic spaces in most structures. Supply ducts convey air that has been conditioned to your living space, and return ducts move the air back to your AC system for reconditioning. While removing old insulation, the Alliance team can inspect and evaluate potential problems that may be visible in existing air duct systems. If problems are found our experts can provide recommendations to resolve any issues and clean the system.

Insulation Removal & Replacement FAQs

With the right crew, attic insulation removal can be a quick process. Professionals can remove insulation from a 1,500-square-foot attic in four to six hours under ideal conditions. Factors that extend the removal time include excess amounts of debris, obstructions like pillars and piping, limited standing room, complications from asbestos insulation and inclement weather.

It’s best to hire a professional to remove your attic insulation, as they have the skills and resources to complete the project fast. Plus, they can safely remove and dispose of insulation containing harmful materials like asbestos. You’re better off using your time and energy on other tasks around the house or office while an insulation removal expert does what they do best.

As a general rule, it’s best to remove and replace your attic insulation every 10-15 years. The frequency will depend on many factors, including:

  • The type of insulation: Fiberglass insulation requires replacement sooner than other types.
  • The climate: Insulation is more likely to wear down or grow mold in warm, humid climates.
  • The level of ventilation: Poor ventilation will allow moisture to accumulate in your attic or crawl space.
