HVAC Cleaning Maintaining a safe and healthy environment in educational institutions is crucial for the well-being BEFORE AFTER and productivity of students and staff.
Air quality plays a vital role in creating a safe and comfortable learning atmosphere. This case study demonstrates the cleaning of HVAC systems in an educational facility that addressed air quality concerns and enhanced ventilation efficiency.
A premier institution of higher education located in Monterey Park, CA recognized that the everyday use of their HVAC system pre-pandemic to little to no use during the pandemic had significantly impacted the indoor air quality of their buildings and ventilation efficiency. Alliance Environmental was invited to perform an initial assessment and determined the HVAC systems required thorough cleaning. After submitting their proposal, they were awarded the project which included air duct cleaning, HEPA vacuuming, disinfecting surfaces, changing of filters, power washing coils and air handler units, and applying rust converter.
From gymnasiums and child development centers to classrooms and administrative buildings, Alliance Environmental identified all compromised systems and immediately created a workflow schedule. Over the course of 60 days from July to September 2022, crews of 24 highly certified technicians worked 10-hour shifts both day and night to tackle the extensive task of cleaning each HVAC system in over 30 campus buildings. There was an urgency to complete the job prior to the start of the new school year resuming face-to-face instruction post-COVID to ensure a seamless transition and minimal disruptions to the students’ learning environment.
Following NADCA cleaning procedures, the Alliance Environmental crew used specialized equipment to dislodge stubborn debris and disperse any mold or microbial growth, along with high-powered vacuums equipped with HEPA filters to extract dust, dirt, and allergens from the air ducts. All damaged parts were replaced. Upon completing the cleaning process, the team conducted thorough quality checks to ensure that all areas of the air duct system were properly cleaned and free from contaminants. Airflow measurements were taken to assess the effectiveness of the cleaning and ventilation improvements.
The school district hired a 3rd party safety compliance company to inspect each building that was completed. In addition to HVAC system cleaning, the Alliance Environmental crew refurbished interior and exterior fans by power washing, scrubbing, and applying rust converter. Refurbishing rather than replacing the fans saved the school a substantial amount of money. Moreover, this project reduced energy consumption, optimized ventilation and airflow, and improved the overall indoor air quality of all the buildings. As a result of Alliance Environmental’s solutions, expert technicians, and performance on this job, the school district requested their assistance in completing similar projects at 5 additional campuses.
