Client: Industrial Facility
Service: Lead Paint Abatement
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Project Overview
Alliance Environmental Group was selected to perform a large-scale lead paint abatement project at an active industrial facility in Los Angeles.
The scope involved deteriorated lead-based coatings throughout an expansive loading dock area containing more than 120 active loading docks. One of the most important requirements of the project was that the facility needed to remain fully operational while remediation work was underway.
Completing lead abatement in an active industrial environment required careful planning, experienced crews, extensive containment, and the flexibility to adapt as site conditions changed.
Challenge
The primary challenge was completing a complex lead abatement project without interrupting the client’s daily operations.
With more than 120 loading docks remaining active throughout the project, Alliance needed to carefully coordinate each phase of work so remediation activities remained separated from employees, contractors, equipment, and ongoing facility operations.
The project required:
- Performing lead abatement within an active industrial facility
- Working around more than 120 operational loading docks
- Establishing and maintaining extensive containment areas
- Coordinating work phases to minimize disruption
- Protecting workers and facility occupants throughout the project
- Adapting to changing site and environmental conditions
- Working safely at elevated areas using specialized access equipment
- Managing high winds and high temperatures during portions of the work
Every phase had to be carefully planned so remediation could move forward safely while the client’s operations continued around the work areas.
Solutions
Alliance developed a phased remediation plan designed around the facility’s ongoing operations.
Crews constructed large containment areas to isolate active work zones from the surrounding facility. Once containment was established, trained personnel wearing appropriate personal protective equipment safely removed deteriorated lead-based coatings using specialized equipment and established lead-abatement work practices.
Because much of the affected material was located along elevated structural components, crews utilized lifts and other access equipment to perform the work safely and efficiently.
Alliance also maintained close coordination with the client throughout the project. As conditions changed, crews adjusted containment areas, sequencing, and work practices to keep the project moving without requiring the facility to shut down.
Safety remained a priority throughout every phase. From containment and PPE to controlled work procedures and site coordination, each step was designed to protect Alliance crews, the client’s personnel, and the operating facility.
After the deteriorated lead-based coatings were removed, Alliance applied a new protective coating to the remediated structural surfaces, helping restore and protect the structure and extend its service life.
Results
Alliance successfully completed the extensive lead abatement project while the facility remained operational.
The project included:
- Lead abatement throughout an area serving more than 120 active loading docks
- Removal of deteriorated lead-based coatings
- Extensive containment to isolate active remediation areas
- Specialized equipment and elevated-access work
- Application of a new protective coating following remediation
- Continuous coordination around active facility operations
- Adaptation to changing conditions, including high winds and temperatures
The project was originally scheduled to take approximately three months. Through careful planning, coordination, and efficient execution, Alliance completed the work three weeks ahead of schedule.
Most importantly, the project demonstrated Alliance Environmental Group’s ability to perform complex environmental remediation work inside an active industrial facility while minimizing disruption to the client’s operations.
Projects of this scale require more than technical remediation expertise. They require flexibility, communication, experienced crews, and the ability to develop solutions around the realities of an operating business.
Alliance Environmental Group brings those capabilities together to deliver complex environmental projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
